Beloved S.B. teacher dies in motor vehicle accident NORTH BRUNSWICK — A fourthgrade teacher from Brooks Crossing Elementary School in South Brunswick died following a motor vehicle accident in North Brunswick on July 2. Details of the accident were not available by press time. Christin Jay Smith, 27, of South Brunswick, was born in New Brunswick and lived in Monmouth Junction her whole life. She graduated from Rutgers University and had been teaching in South Brunswick for the past three years. "Christin was an exceptional teacher and an even better person. She was someone who connected with her kids. She made kids want to learn … and motivated youngsters to do their best. She was an exceptional teacher and her loss is an exceptional loss for her students and, of course, for the staff," said Gary McCartney, South Brunswick superintendent of schools. Smith's funeral service was scheduled to be held today at the M.J. Murphy Funeral Home in Monmouth Junction, and her burial was set to follow at Franklin Memorial Park in North Brunswick.
