Bank should look elsewhere for branch site
It is disgraceful that Valley National Bank would consider demolishing an historic structure such as the Forney House in Milltown. The loss of such a building is a blow to the history and character of Milltown and the state of New Jersey as a whole. I find it reprehensible that Valley National would totally disregard an irreplaceable part of our collective history as a people merely to build a new branch office. There are other suitable locations for a bank in that area, and the bank should halt its plans to move forward with the demolition of that bank at once.

As a former resident of Milltown, I am shocked that the borough government is not speaking out against this horrific project, which would demolish one of the nicest historic homes in the town. The borough has worked so hard to redevelop the Ford Avenue site, and should be more proactive in protecting the Forney House. This house contributes to the old small town feel that Milltown's Main Street has. Its demolition and replacement with a modern bank branch is an outrage.
