SBHS Viking band wins championship

The South Brunswick High School (SBHS) Viking marching band won the United States Scholastic Band Northern States Championship in early November in Allentown, Pa. The division in which the band competes represents the largest and most competitive bands in the association. The Vikings also won special awards for Best Visual and Best Colorguard. Its show, "Leonardo Dreams," was based on the vocal music of Eric Whitacre entitled, "Leonardo Dreams of His Flying Machine."

The 180-member band is directed by Mark Kraft. Drum majors for the band are seniors Michael Roche, Matt Wolf and Amanda Gorzynski.
