County puts park project out to bid
Rec. facility will be built on North Brunswick- Milltown border

NORTH BRUNSWICK - The Middlesex County Board of Chosen Freeholders has authorized the solicitation of bids to build a new recreation facility off Route 1 bordering North Brunswick and Milltown on land it purchased in 2004 for this purpose.

The county is seeking to build recreational facilities on the 25-acre former DKM property it purchased in October 2004.

"My freeholder colleagues and I are committed to helping our municipalities offer the highest-quality recreational facilities to their residents," said Freeholder Director David B. Crabiel. "North Brunswick and Milltown came to us with specific needs, and I am happy we are able to help."

The project, estimated to cost $5 million, will include a new multipurpose turf field, which can be used for soccer or lacrosse. A new Little League field will replace an existing one. The project also includes a playground, walking and biking paths, lighting, a parking lot and comfort station.

About 10 acres of the total property will remain open space.

North Brunswick and Milltown will have scheduling privileges for the fields, which will be administered by the Middlesex County Department of Parks and Recreation.

"The county has made sure what they do with the county park supplements our needs," said North Brunswick Mayor Francis "Mac" Womack.

The Freeholders authorized the bidding at their June 19 regular meeting. Construction should begin in early fall.

"I believe we have some of the finest parks, fields and playgrounds in the region and I'm thrilled that we can add to that impressive lineup of facilities," said Freeholder Deputy Director Stephen J. "Pete" Dalina, chair of the County's Parks and Recreation Committee.
