No. Bruns. man arrested after late-night altercation

SAYREVILLE - Police made three arrests following an assault that took place on MacArthur Avenue recently.

All available police units were dispatched to an outdoor area near American Legion Post 211, where a 24-year-old East Orange man was reportedly assaulted at 11:34 p.m. June 28. The fight was in progress and a large group of people were surrounding the alleged victim when police arrived.

Police arrested Jeston Lamar Carter, 23, of North Brunswick, charging him with disorderly conduct. The Perry Drive resident allegedly punched someone at the scene and was ready to continue fighting when a patrolman placed him under arrest.

The victim was on the ground next to the adjacent firehouse, and the crowd moved away from him as the Sayreville First Aid Squad responded to the scene. He was transported to Raritan Bay Medical Center, Perth Amboy, where he was treated and released.

People at the scene reportedly provided limited information to police, who also arrested and charged Ciara C. Gordon, 20, of South River, with disorderly conduct in the incident. The Whitehead Avenue resident was released pending a date in court.

Police searched a 1992 Honda Accord at the scene due to the violent nature of the call and reports that weapons were involved. Authorities recovered a can of OC, or pepper spray, and a box cutter from the glove compartment and an open bottle of cognac from the rear of the vehicle. The owner of the vehicle was identified and issued a summons for having an open container in the vehicle.

Police were also dispatched to a nearby gas station, where a small group of people believed to be involved in the incident on the American Legion property had gathered. At the gas station, police arrested David W. Young, 25, of Roselle, on two active warrants related to charges of contempt. Police transported him to the original scene, where he was needed for questioning before being processed at headquarters.
