Storm in S.B. was not a tornado

SOUTH BRUNSWICK - Strong winds of at least 55 mph swirled through the Monmouth Junction and Dayton sections of the township on Sunday at around 5 p.m., knocking down trees and causing roads to be closed, Police Sgt. Hugh Mc- Neil said.

Many trees fell due to the winds. One tree fell on a parked car and another fell on a house, although there was no structural damage done to the home.

Major Road and Georges Road were just two of the roads that had to be closed after the storm.

"The most extensive damage was in that area," McNeil said. "A tree fell on East Garden Way and also on Woodland Way."

McNeil said that trees also fell at both Crossroads North and South.

There were no reported injuries due to the wind, and the storm was not a tornado as initially assumed, McNeil said.
