Sheriff's officer accused of helping woman leave country

SOUTH BRUNSWICK - A Middlesex County sheriff 's officer was charged with interfering with custody, hindering apprehension and false swearing for allegedly helping a woman leave the country for India, which was in violation of a court order.

Ryan Ramdass, 33, of Kendall Park, was arrested June 19 for helping his girlfriend flee the country, according to assistant Middlesex County prosecutor Brian Gillet.

She left on June 8 for India, but she was not declared missing until June 15.

Ramdass is facing a maximum of 16 and a half years in prison if he is convicted on all counts.

He also faces up to 10 years in prison on the interference charge alone and up to five years on the hindering apprehension charge.

He was released from the Middlesex County Adult Correction Center on $35,000 bail.
