Bear cubs spotted in So. Bruns

Ablack bear cub was spotted in South Brunswick last week on Tuesday and Wednesday, including at a McDonald's drive-up window, according to South Brunswick Police Sgt. Hugh McNeil.

McNeil said the bear was sighted several times and that he and another officer even followed a bear through a swamp before the state Division of Fish & Wildlife told them to back off. They were trying to keep track of the animal.

McNeil said the bear was "maybe about 3 feet tall at the shoulders." The bear had tags in two of its ears, as well.

The bear was spotted in several areas. The first instance occurred near Route 27 and Route 518. The bear was next seen at the McDonald's near Sand Hills Road and Route 1. It was also sighted at Oakdale Village, on Route 1 just south of Finnegans Lane, and on Avenue A at Finnegans Lane.

McNeil said there could have been anywhere from one to three bears in all that were spotted in the area last week.
