Don't use taxes to pay for private group
In regard to Martin Engel's letter in the May 22 Sentinel, "YMCA Feeding at the Public Trough," I tend to strongly agree with his points and cannot understand how the county can help a private group with funding. However, Mr. Engel needs to study the U.S. Constitution because, his statement regarding "separation of church and state" cannot be found in that document. It is just an urban legend. The First Amendment says, "Congress shall make no law respecting the establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof." That is the establishment clause that Mr. Engel refers to. I too, don't want my property tax dollars to help pay for a private organization.
