There's no carping about Koie
New Japanese-Thai restaurant adds fusion dining to Rt. 130

SUSANNE MORELLI The interior of Koie, a new Japanese-Thai restaurant located in North Brunswick.
NORTH BRUNSWICK- Koie Japanese Thai Fusion, located in the Renaissance Plaza shopping center near ShopRite on Route 130 south, offers soups, salads, sushi, sashimi, teriyaki and tempura in a casual dining setting. Specialties include a variety of top-quality sushi, fresh fish imported from Japan, and desserts such as homemade black sashimi ice cream, mango sticky rice and banana spring roll with ice cream.

Though Koie doesn't have a sugar-free or a dietary menu, they do offer a variety of 12 different salads, seafood and vegetable dishes. The menu comprises 85-90 percent of Japanese Thai-inspired dishes and 25 percent sushi dishes.

Peter Low, owner of Koie, decided to open the restaurant in North Brunswick because people like mixing sushi and teriyaki with Thai cuisine that is spicy and sour.

"If people like sushi, they will come in once or twice a week, becoming a regular customer," he said.

Low is no stranger to the restaurant business, having worked for more than 15 years at the Ota-Ya restaurant in the Lambertville, Newton, Warrington, Pa., and New York City locations. He opened Koie on May 9.

Koie is open seven days a week, serving lunch 11:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m. Monday to Saturday; and dinner 4:30-9:30 p.m.Monday to Thursday, 4:30-10:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and 3-9:30 p.m. Sunday.
