Teen hit by train sustains serious injuries

NORTH BRUNSWICK - A 16-yearold boy was hit by a train about 4:30 p.m. Friday in the area of the How Lane overpass, according to police Lt. Roger Reinson.

The train was heading northbound on the number two track. The boy was between tracks one and two and was thrown approximately 180 feet after being struck.

The boy was taken to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital with serious injuries.

"There were internal injuries," Reinson said. "A broken hip was involved."

Reinson said he believed the boy was spotted by another train that was passing by more slowly than the train that hit him. Amtrak officials were notified, who then contacted the police.

The track was shut down for a period of time to investigate the accident, according to Reinson, although he does not believe it was for very long.
