Delgado named as president of N.J. School Boards Assoc.

SOUTH BRUNSWICK - Harry Delgado, a member of the township Board of Education for 13 years, was elected as the president of the New Jersey School Boards Association (NJSBA) at a meeting on May 17 in Plainsboro.

"Over the next two years, it will be critical that all New Jersey boards work as a team," Delgado said at the meeting. "Local school governance is under attack. State officials are diverting the blame for New Jersey's fiscal crisis away from their own actions and toward local school boards."

Board of Education Vice President Matthew Speesler talked about Delgado's appointment at the school boardmeeting on Monday.

"He's been one of my mentors, from when I first joined the board," Speesler said. "The NJSBA is one of our key places in terms of making our voices heard in Trenton. It's not going to be an easy job, but I am really convinced he's the man for the job."

Delgado believes that Trenton is not making the right decisions.

"Part of the state's game plan is legislation and regulation that is far more intrusive, far more illogical, and far more micromanaging than anything we've seen before,"Delgado said. "It's time for the 4,500 men and women who serve their communities as board members to stand up and set the record straight."

Delgado had previously been the NJSBA's vice president for county activities. He is a former president of the Middlesex County School Boards Association.
