YMCA feeding at the public trough
What in heaven's name has Dave Crabiel and the duly elected freeholders of Middlesex County so interested in the goings-on of a south county YMCA that they're going to provide county taxpayer money to the tune of $3 million toward a planned $4.5 million expansion project?

Why is this YMCA so special that it gets to feed at the public trough like a regular politician? Why does every taxpayer in Middlesex County get the privilege of ponying up for this project? And if our freeholders have all this ready cash on hand for our youth, how about some support for Boys and Girls Clubs, PAL, Little League and Pop Warner, Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts, and oh yes, there's a YMHA in Highland Park that can use a helping hand.

Why isn't the Y out there pitching United Way for more help, like everyone else?

I'd also remind the freeholders that this Young Men's Christian Association wants to be known as the home of the South Brunswick High School swim team … how will that square with the establishment clause in our U.S. Constitution? Won't separation of church and state come home to roost as it has in East Brunswick? Coach Borden can't say a prayer with his players without being clubbed over the head with the establishment clause. And here are our freeholders putting up $3 million in taxpayer money for a religious-affiliated organization to expand their association in South Brunswick's High School.
