Shots fired outside party

SOUTH BRUNSWICK - Shots were fired near the VFW Post on Henderson Road on April 19 at midnight, according to police.

No one was struck by the gunfire and no arrests have been made yet, said Sgt. James Stoddard, police spokesman.

A 17-year-old girl was holding her birthday party there.

"There was a large group of mostly teenagers, estimated at over 200 people," Stoddard said. "Witnesses told the officer that the party was advertised by leaflets and by word of mouth throughout surrounding towns."

The incident may have been related to gangs.

"There's always that possibility," Stoddard said.

He added that the shooter was reportedly wearing a red shirt and a red hat, which "can be a type of gang attire." However, he said, "Dress alone is not enough to say it was gang related."
