Board of Ed. honors athletes
BY JENNIFER AMATO Staff Writer

NORTH BRUNSWICK - The Board of Education honored a group of student athletes from the township high school with proclamations during a meeting on Feb. 20.

Danae Wise, a junior, was named to the All-Greater Middlesex Conference (GMC) First Team for track her freshman and sophomore years.

In 2007, she was the lead leg of the 4x100 and 4x200 relay that was ranked No. 2 in New Jersey and No. 28 nationally. She also led the 4x400 relay that earned the high school its first Penn Relay Carnival medal.

She currently holds four school individual records and is a part of eight relay school records.

"The nicest thing I get to say is, we get to see you one year after this," Schools Superintendent Brian Zychowski said.

Andrew Rose, a junior, won his second GMC individual championship at this year's swim meet, becoming the only high school boy to win any individual swimming title in over 10 years, and he has now done it in two consecutive years, in two separate events.

In addition, Rose broke a 15-year-old record in the 100-meter breaststroke and was one of four boys who broke an 11-yearold freestyle relay record.

"As I said with Danae, the nice part is, you're coming back for another year," Zychowski said.

Jerome Walker Jr., a senior, has been on the bowling team the last two years as part of the starting lineup. He increased his average from 178 to 193 just this year.

On Dec. 20, Walker bowled a perfect game of 300 against St. Joseph's High School in Metuchen, and rolled a high series of 712.

"They say nobody is perfect but in your case, on Dec. 20, you were," Zychowski said.

Sophomore Chelsea Glincman is on the varsity diving team for the second year and has already broken a 26-year-old record, with a cumulative score of 231.85 points, which beat the old record by 23.35 points.

Glincman is also a member of the Junior Olympic team at Lord of the Boards in Bridgewater.

"The nicest thing about you, Chelsea, is we have you for two more years so you can continue to impress us," Zychowski said.
