Comm. Center to improve
BY CHRIS MURINO Staff Writer

SOUTH BRUNSWICK - The Township Council authorized a contract with Cypreco Industries, of Neptune, on Feb. 11 to make renovations and additions to the Community Center at Woodlot Park.

Construction will cost the township $1.46 million.

"We will be expanding the small existing gym and making a full, high schoolsized gym," said Tom Morris, the director of the recreation and parks department. "It will have one regular size basketball court with two smaller courts going the width of the gym."

A 900-square-foot multipurpose room will be added, which will be used for conference room space, special events and storage. Overall, the 9,000-square-foot building will balloon to 13,000 square feet after the anticipated additions.

There will also be renovations done throughout the center, including a new air conditioning system.

"There will be new carpet; we'll fix any leaks," Morris said. "There will be a new roof on the facility. It's a total makeover of the building. It will make the building a lot more desirable. It was built 30 years ago and it's still used quite a bit."

Morris anticipates construction will begin in May and should be completed by the end of September or early October.

According to Ron Schmalz, the township spokesman, South Brunswick received five bids that were under the budget of $1.5 million. Jimmy Dumas Architecture reviewed the bidders.
