Properties around cell tower got raw deal
Iagree with David Spaulding that the North Brunswick properties surrounding the new cell tower got a raw deal. Cell sites can be a financial boon to those who provide space for them, in this case, the North Brunswick Volunteer Fire/Ladder Company No. 3.

Real estate sales people advise that cellular towers in residential neighborhoods have proved detrimental to property values - just as power lines do, on a comparable basis - due to their appearance and perceived health risks.

There are two main reasons for this:

• Perceived health problems and the danger of living so close to the antenna

• The destruction of natural landscape and scenery, which can lead to the area around the house looking unattractive

Perception, even if evidence is inconclusive, is reality when it comes to selling your home for top dollar. A decrease or slower growth in property values does not help the residents of North Brunswick or the tax base. The only recourse at this time is to challenge our tax assessments and monitor the actions of our elected officials.
