Accidental car fire damages nearby house

SOUTH BRUNSWICK- Acar caught on fire in the driveway of a Monmouth Junction home Sunday night when a man spilled gas while filling up the tank of his daughter's car, according to police.

There were no injuries in the incident, which occurred at 9 p.m. at a Gramercy Road home. The man said that his daughter's 1997 Nissan would not start and so he got 2 gallons of gas at a local gas station. While filling the tank, he spilled some gas, but could not see it because of the darkness. Minutes after starting the vehicle, it fully caught fire, melting the siding of the nearby house.

Monmouth Junction and Kingston Fire Departments responded to the scene. They were able to extinguish the fire before too much damage was done.
