Baroni joins McCain's presidential campaign
BY CHRIS MURINO Staff Writer

SOUTH BRUNSWICK - U.S. Sen. and presidential hopeful JohnMcCain announced last week that Sen. Bill Baroni (R-Hamilton) will serve as the state chairman for his campaign.

Baroni is excited to be a part of the campaign and believes it is a great responsibility.

"It's a labor of love for John McCain," Baroni said of his efforts.

Baroni used the grassroots approach to campaigning when he ran for state senator and he is using the same approach in this campaign for McCain. He said that talking face to face with the voters is much more successful than any other method.

"Cash-strapped, we had to rely on volunteers," Baroni said of his campaign for senator. "I've been going out and talking to people about John McCain."

Recent polls have suggested that Mc- Cain could win in New Jersey, even over Rudy Giuliani, who was thought to have it locked up because of his popularity as the mayor of New York.

A Quinnipiac University poll released last week had McCain over Giuliani 29 to 26 percent.

"He appeals to the unaffiliated voters and also to Democrats," Baroni said.

Also, McCain has a lot of support from the veterans.

"Obviously, he was a hero in Vietnam," Baroni said.

Baroni said that McCain would be visiting New Jersey on Monday, the day before the state's primary. It is not yet known where McCain will appear.
