S.B. library welcomes new director

SOUTH BRUNSWICK - The South Brunswick Township Library Board appointed Christopher Carbone as the new library director at its board meeting on Nov. 29.

Carbone's appointment took effect on Saturday, the day of the library's annual open house event. The library ended its three-month search for a new director, taking applications from those in eastern Pennsylvania, New Jersey and New York.

Library board President Ellen Gambatese talked about the appointment at the library's open house.

"He was the best candidate," Gambatese said. "He really loves the South Brunswick library."

Gambatese was impressed with many of his qualities.

"I was impressed with his people skills and his creative thinking," she said. "Chris rallied the staff to work in teams to address the strategy and planning goals that we settled on earlier in the year.

Carbone has served the library for 19 years in some capacity and had been the assistant director and acting director previously. He was raised in South Brunswick and attended South Brunswick schools.

He graduated magna cum laude from The College of New Jersey with a degree in business administration, and summa cum laude from Rutgers University with a master's degree in library science.

Muhammad Ashraf, the library board president, said he was looking forward to working with Carbone in this era of new growth for the library.

Carbone could not be reached by press time.
