Dems. defeat Repubs. in Assembly election SOUTH BRUNSWICK - Incumbent Democratic Assemblywoman Linda Greenstein and fellow Democrat Wayne DeAngelo picked up two seats at the state Assembly, knocking out Republicans Tom Goodwin and Adam Bushman in what was an exceedingly close race. DeAngelo won by just over 500 votes, according to politicsnj. com. "It's been a lot of hard work," DeAngelo said. "Most important were the people on the street today." "As excited as I am about winning, I'm more excited I finally have a partner in the Legislature," Greenstein said. "Almost everybody but me had someone with them." Greenstein said the victory was not the only thing on her mind. "Like so many elections I've taken part in, it's bittersweet," Greenstein said. "I'm sorry about some of the losses we've had." DeAngelo said he was happy with the way he and Linda campaigned. "We stuck to the issues," DeAngelo said. "We didn't need negative attacks to win." He even started to look ahead at what must be done. "We need to look at new funding for our educational system," DeAngelo said. "We desperately need to bring development to New Jersey." Libertarian candidate Jason Scheurer, who had filed a lawsuit trying to get equal funding under the Fair and Clean Elections Program, received 1700 votes according to his campaign manager, Lou Jasikoff. "We were expecting more than that," Jasikoff said. "Obviously, if we had equal funding, we would have been able to do more TV commercials. The close race may have kept our totals down." The Republican candidates, Bushman and Goodwin, could not be reached for comment by press time. - Chris Murino |
