Men charged with leading police on high-speed chase
BY JENNIFER AMATO
Staff Writer

NORTH BRUNSWICK - Two township residents charged with marijuana distribution on July 4 were allegedly involved in a high-speed chase using a stolen car through Milltown on July 30.

According to Milltown police Sgt. Roy Manfredi, a patrolman observed a vehicle passing another on the right side at about 45 mph on Ford Avenue around 8:37 p.m. The police officer activated his lights and sirens in pursuit of the vehicle, only to have the vehicle travel down Ford Avenue to Brook Drive to River Avenue and then Oakmont Avenue.

At this point, the 2004 Saab, which was discovered to be stolen out of New Brunswick, struck a tree but pulled back onto the roadway. The car had a flat tire and an occupant of the car was seen checking the engine fluid, according to reports. The vehicle finally pulled over on Oakmont and Hickory Drive and three males jumped out and began to run.

Robert Green, 18, of Wimbledon Court was picked up by the East Brunswick Police Department about 10 minutes later as he was walking down River Avenue. Justin Movafeghzadeh, 18, of Goodwin Drive, was arrested in his residence without incident by North Brunswick Police at 1:57 a.m. on July 31.

On Tuesday, police said a warrant had been issued for the arrest of the third male, although they declined to identify the suspect.

Green and Movafeghzadeh were charged with obstruction of justice for eluding police and fleeing their motor vehicle. Green was released on his own recognizance, but Movafeghzadeh was transported to the Middlesex County Adult Correction Center on $10,000 bail for having the stolen vehicle in his possession.

In July, North Brunswick police arrested and charged Green, Movafeghzadeh and Joshua White, 19, of North Brunswick, with possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, distribution of marijuana, possession of controlled dangerous substances near school property and possession within 500 feet of public property after police noticed a suspicious vehicle on Elmwood Place.

The three men exited the vehicle and one began to run. Police apprehended the man along with bags containing marijuana and cash, according to Sgt. Manfredi.
