North Brunswick names July scholars

NORTH BRUNSWICK - Three township residents were honored as the Scholar-Athlete-Artist Award recipients at the Township Council meeting on July 2. The program was created to honor students who excel in academics, athletics and/or the arts.

Class: Will be a senior at North Brunswick Town-ship High School in September

Academics: Member of the National Honor Society

Arts: Member of the marching band for three years; plays the snare on the drum line; is a drum captain; is a member of the winter percussion; Alchemist Theatre Group member for three years; choreographed a musical number for "Theatre Revue"

Athletics: Plays softball in North and East Brunswick

Other activities: Offers private drum lessons

Anthony Scimone

Class: Recent graduate of North Brunswick Township High School

Academics: Honor roll student

Anthony Scimone
Athletics: Was an attack midfielder for the school's varsity lacrosse team since freshman year; held captain's position as a senior on the team; named to the 1st Team All Honors in Middlesex County; was named a top scorer and offensive threat in the county at an All Star game

Volunteer efforts: Assists with the township's recreational lacrosse program

Kate Stott

Age: Recent graduate of North Brunswick Township High School; will be attending: University of Rhode Island

Academics: Honors student

Athletics: Was a member of the high school's varsity dive team and participated in the floor and beam exercises for the varsity gymnastics team

Arts: Was a co-editor of "Painted Words," the art and literary magazine at the high school

Volunteer efforts: Member of the Dioceses of New Jersey Youth Council group

The Department of Parks, Recreation & Community Services is accepting nominations for the program. Coaches, teachers and parents of children in grades three-12 can submit their recommendations to the DPRCS Office at 710 Hermann Road or to LBenson@northbrunswick

Nominations must be in writing, no longer than one page, and a copy of the student's most recent report card must be attached.
