Library drive for food bank a huge success

Forty is a time to give back. In honor of its 40th anniversary, the North Brunswick Library held a food drive for the North Brunswick Township Food Bank. Two hundred and fifty items were collected from the staff and the public. Cans of vegetables and fruit, peanut butter and jelly, soups, macaroni and cheese, cereals, cake mixes, canned meat and fish, and more will help to stretch the food pantries of township residents a little further.

"Donated food is needed all year round, not just at holiday times," said Kathy Aruta, the Food Bank coordinator as she helped pack up the donations. "Especially during the summer when kids do not get breakfasts and lunches at school."

The North Brunswick Library serves as a drop-off point for the Food Bank all year round. Donations of nonperishable food and personal care items are always accepted during library hours, Monday through Thursday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., and Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The library is closed Sundays during the summer. For more information, call the library at (732) 236-3545.
