Health conference, talk on drugs in South Brunswick

The South Brunswick Health Department has announced it will hold child health conferences July 10, Sept. 11 and Nov. 13.

The conferences will offer immunizations, physical exams by a pediatrician, growth and development counseling, safety and nutrition counseling, tuberculosis screenings, and lead screenings. The service is for South Brunswick residents age 2 months through 18 years that do not have health insurance or are American Indians or Alaskan natives. The Health Department in partnership with South Brunswick Development Corporation will host "Over the Counter and Herbal Medications ... Helpful or Harmful?," July 12 from 10:30 a.m.-noon. The free program will be at Charleston Place Community Room 3424 Route 27, Kendall Park section of South Brunswick. Somna Dalal, B.S., M.S., R.Ph., pharmacy manager at Stop & Shop, South Brunswick, will be giving the presentation. All are welcome to attend, and light refreshments will be served, and a door prize given.

A "brown bag" program will follow: attendees may bring medications (nonprescription, herbal and prescription) in a brown bag and have the pharmacist answer questions and/or assess for incompatibilities, contraindications, etc. Registration is required for the brown bag activity.
