Fight breaks out over cell phone use in library

SOUTH BRUNSWICK - Police were called in to break up a physical altercation between a 15-year-old boy and a man thought to be somewhere around the age of 50 on June 12 outside the public library.

At 6:50 p.m., officers arrived at the library and found the South Brunswick teen who had been involved in the fight. According to the teenager and several witnesses, the dispute started in the library over the use of a cell phone in the computer room.

A middle-age man, the one who was eventually involved in the fight, asked a teenage girl to get off her phone. Several minutes later the 15-year-old male received a cell phone call and made a comment to the adult as he left the room to take the call.

The adult followed the teenager outside the library and the two exchanged words. The situation escalated to the point where the teen and adult began fighting. The teen said the man choked him before the two began to wrestle.

Prior to police arriving, the man had already left in his vehicle. The man was described as a white man approximately 50 years old and balding. The teenager was not injured in the incident.
