D&R Canal State Park ice cream social June 23

Delaware and Raritan (D&R) Canal State Park will present a "19th Century Ice Cream Social" June 23 at 1 p.m. at its office at 145 Mapleton Road, Kingston section of South Brunswick. The free program is open to children age 5 and older with accompanying adult. Attendees will churn ice cream and play historic games.

"Compass Basics" will be held July 7 at 1 p.m. at the park office. Attendees will spend the afternoon outdoors learning how to interpret topographic maps and use a magnetic compass. Afterward, participants will try new skills on a small orienteering course. The free program is appropriate for children ages 8 and older and lasts approximately 90 minutes.
