Streets near Parsons will be made one-way NORTH BRUNSWICK - The streets surrounding Parsons Elementary School will travel in a one-way direction beginning in mid-July. An ordinance approving the reconfiguration of Hollywood Place and Cleremont Avenue was adopted by the Township Council at its regular meeting June 4. The decision to change the streets was due to a tight curve on the street making school bus loading and unloading a bit tight with oncoming traffic, according to Councilwoman Cathy Nicola, the liaison to the Traffic Safety Committee. "This makes it safer for the children in terms of exiting the buses. The safety of the students, even though a new traffic pattern will take a bit of getting used to, safety always takes first priority, so making this a one-way street will certainly be advantageous," she said. Hollywood Place, in the northern direction between Cleremont and Remsen avenues, as well as Cleremont Avenue, in the easterly direction between Edgewood and Hollywood places, will now be one-way streets moving toward the direction of the school. Parking will still be permitted on all mentioned sections. Nicola said that the Board of Education sought the township's assistance about a year ago, after which township engineer CME studied the intersections and the Department of Transportation approved the new configurations as safer. The next step is to make residents along the streets, the teaching staff and the bus company aware of the changes. Everything is expected to be in place, including new street signs and a police message board trailer, 20 days after the publication of a legal notice.
