Charles E. Ocello

Mr. Ocello, 78, of North Brunswick, died May 29, 2007, at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, New Brunswick. Born in East Rutherford, he resided in Toms River prior to relocating to North Brunswick 14 years ago. He was a chef at Breakers Hotel, Spring Lake, retiring in 1993. He served with the U.S. Army during World War II. He is survived by two daughters, Sharon Hobor and Marion Todd, both North Brunswick; four sons, Gregory Ocello of Petaluma, Calif., Stephen Ocello of Vestal, N.Y., Joseph Ocello of Neptune City, and Edward Ocello of Browns Mills; and six grandchildren. Interment was at Holy Cross Cemetery, North Arlington. Arrangements were by Selover Funeral Home, North Brunswick.

Josephine C. Pellicane Betzler

Mrs. Betzler, 86, of Milltown, died May 30, 2007, at Francis E. Parker Memorial Home, New Brunswick. Born in New Brunswick, she resided in Milltown for more than 60 years. She was a communicant of Our Lady of Lourdes Roman Catholic Church, Milltown. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Milltown Fire Department, Milltown Seniors Citizens, and Milltown Auxiliary of the Hi 12 Club. Mrs. Betzler was predeceased by her husband, Charles G. Betzler, in 1997; two brothers, Joseph and Paul Pellicane; and a sister, Lena Mazza. She is survived by a son, Charles G. Betzler Jr. of Verona; a daughter, Charlotte Oskin of Montgomery Township; a brother, Frank Pellicane of North Brunswick; and five grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at Our Lady of Lourdes Church, followed by interment at Van Liew Cemetery, North Brunswick. Arrangements were by Selover Funeral Home, North Brunswick.

Michael R. "Mike" Tarkany

Mr. Tarkany, 58, of Spotswood, died May 30, 2007, at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, New Brunswick. Born in New Brunswick, he resided in Spotswood most of his life. He was a carpenter and member of Carpenters Union Local 1006, Milltown, for 38 years, retiring earlier this year. He was a member of St. Peter's Episcopal Church, Spotswood. He was a member of the Island Beach State Park Beach Buggy Club. Mr. Tarkany was predeceased by his father, Michael Tarkany, in 1983. He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Judith McAteer Tarkany; his mother, Frances Tarkany of Spotswood; two daughters and sons-in-law, Caralyn and Michael Krail of North Brunswick, and Megan and Robert Kelliher of Belmar; a brother and sister-in-law, Daniel and Carol Tarkany of Old Bridge; and a granddaughter. A funeral service was held at St. Peter's Church. Arrangements were by The Brunswick Memorial Home, East Brunswick. Patricia "Pat" A. Matthews

Mrs. Matthews, 76, of Freehold Township, died May 23, 2007, at Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune. Born in Jersey City, she had lived in Glendale, N.Y., Pennsylvania, Illinois, Manalapan and Port Richey, Fla., before moving to Freehold Township in 2006. She was a sales associate for Steinbach, Manalapan. Mrs. Matthews was predeceased by her husband, George, in 2004, as well as a brother, Richard Harrington. Surviving are two sons, Thomas Matthews of North Brunswick and Christian Matthews of Wall Township; two daughters and a son-in-law, Mary and Oliver Boucher of Farmingdale and Margaret Tomaini of Freehold; two sisters, Barbara Timmes of Manalapan and Kathleen Flanagan of Belleville; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Dr. E. Joyce Zimmerman

Dr. Zimmerman, 69, of North Brunswick, died June 2, 2007, at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, New Brunswick, following a length battle with cancer. She was a longtime resident of New Brunswick and North Brunswick. She was a parishioner of St. Peter The Apostle Roman Catholic Church, New Brunswick. She was a biostatistician at Johnson & Johnson-Ortho Pharmaceutical Division, Schering Pharmaceuticals and Hoechst Pharmaceuticals, designing and implementing clinical trials for new drug submission to the Federal Drug Administration. She was recognized by Somerset County Chamber of Commerce as an "Outstanding Woman in Business and Industry." She volunteered with the Challah Bread Fund, and Meals on Wheels. She also served on the North Brunswick Senior Citizens board, and was a member of the Women's Adams Social Club. She was an avid golfer, and enjoyed bocce and the beach. She is survived by a brother and sister-in-law, Joseph and Claire Zimmerman; and by three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Claire and Gary Johnson, Barbara Zimmerman, and Mary and Joseph Chyb; and several nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at St. Peter's Church. Entombment was at St. Peter's Cemetery, New Brunswick. Arrangements were by Gleason Funeral Home, Somerset.
