Dedication, party at senior center in June

South Brunswick Senior Center, Route 522, Monmouth Junction section of South Brunswick, will hold the dedication of the Eagle Scout walking trail June 7 at 12:30 p.m.

South Brunswick High School senior James Kaminski, a member of Scout Troop 10, Monmouth Junction, will be celebrated for his work at the dedication of his walking trail. Mayor Frank Gambatese, the Deputy Mayor, the Kaminski family, staff and seniors from the center will be at the ceremony. Kaminski built the path for his Eagle Project. It runs from the center's outdoor recreation area through the woods connecting to Reichler Park. A barbecue will precede festivities at 11:45 a.m., and suggested cost for lunch is $2.25. Reservations are required.

A citizenship seminar will be June 14 at 12:30 p.m. Boaz Community Corporation representative Yessimar Santos will give the seminar.

The center will celebrate its 16th anniversary June 28. A barbecue will begin the event at 11:45 a.m., followed by guest speakers, live music, refreshments, prizes and a party at 12:30 p.m. Suggested cost for lunch is $2.25. Vegetarian meals are available, and reservations are required.

Support group, collage class at S.B. center

The South Brunswick Office on Aging is offering a six-week bereavement support group scheduled to meet in the evenings during the summer.

The free group is for South Brunswick residents age 55 and older who have experienced the loss of a loved one. For more information or to register, call Caryl at (732) 329-4000, ext. 7212

A new collage workshop with Helen Post will be offered for four Mondays beginning June 4 at 1 p.m. Collage is a construction of a variety of materials such as different papers, and found objects such as beads, buttons and photos. Fee is $8. Attendees should bring different papers, 1/8 illustration board, a brown paper bag, latex gloves, glue, plastic spatula and found objects.

Registration ends May 30 for children's tennis

South Brunswick Community Education has announced second session of its children's tennis has been added and will run June 2-30. Registration deadline is May 30.

The session consists of five lessons. The "Pee Wee" program for children age 4-7 will be held in one-hour classes at 8:25 a.m. and 9:30 a.m. at Crossroads School, and 1:45 p.m. and 2:45 p.m. at South Brunswick High School. Students age 8-10 will meet from 10:30 a.m.-noon at Crossroads, and age 10 and older 12:15-1:45 p.m. at the high school.

Natural landscape care workshop June 2

Rutgers Cooperative Extension of Middlesex County will present a workshop on natural landscape care June 2 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Middlesex County EARTH Center, 42 Riva Ave., Davidson's Mill Pond Park, South Brunswick.

The workshop will discuss the use of native plants and choosing the right plant for the right place, the concept of using integrated pest management on the homefront, and simple practices such as using compost to improve soils can help achieve a healthy landscape. Cost is $35 and preregistration is requested.

May 30 for 'Real Rap'

My Daughter's Keeper Inc., North Brunswick, will hold its "Real Rap" session for teen girls June 1 from 6-8 p.m. at North Brunswick Government & Community Complex, 710 Hermann Road. Individuals are asked to R.S.V.P. by May 30.

The session will focus on "Are You a Leader or a Follower? Find the Leader in YOU!" and will be facilitated by the African American Leadership Council (AALC) from Johnson & Johnson. The North Brunswick Democratic Social Club will hold its next meeting June 13 at 7:30 p.m. at Omega Diner, Route 1, North Brunswick. The club is a volunteer social organization. the public is welcome to attend.

Memorial Day run, parade in North Brunswick

North Brunswick Department of Parks, Recreation & Community Services will hold its 28th annual Memorial Day walk/run May 28 at Sabella Park. Check in is at 7:30 a.m., the walk begins at 8:30 a.m., and the run at 8:45 a.m.

The 52nd annual parade will begin at noon at Linwood Place. Grand Marshal will be Michael Gaeta. A picnic and bike-decorating contest will follow at approximately 1 p.m. at Babbage Park.

North Brunswick youth sports festival June 13-17

The 10th annual North Brunswick youth sports festival benefiting youth sports in North Brunswick will be held June 13-17 on the grounds adjacent to DeVry University, Route 1, North Brunswick.

Hours are Wednesday and Thursday from 6-10 p.m. Friday from 6-11 p.m., Saturday from 3 p.m. to midnight, and Sunday from 3-10 p.m.

The event will feature rides, games, a petting zoo, various foods, DJ Phil, a stunt show, amateur wrestling and boxing, face-painting, tattoos, clowns, magic shows, balloon artists, pony rides and other activities. Fireworks will be June 16 at 10 p.m. (rain date June 17 at 9 p.m.).

Father's Day Fishing Derby June 17

North Brunswick Recreation will hold a Father's Day fishing derby for children in preschool through eighth grade June 17 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Boyd Pond off Route 130 south.

Registration begins at 11 a.m. and prizes awarded at 1:30 p.m. Fishing poles and bait will not be provided but hot dogs and drinks will be sold. Early registration is encouraged.

Tickets now on sale for OLOL Casino Night

Our Lady of Lourdes School (OLOL), 44 Cleveland Avenue, Milltown, will host Casino Night June 9 at 6 p.m.

The event will feature a buffet dinner, a slot machine, 50/50, and other additional raffles. Advance tickets are $60 each or $100 for two tickets. Tickets purchased at the door are $70 each. Each ticket includes entry, $250 of "play" money, and the buffet. Guests may purchase more play money during the evening.

N.B. Library to hold murder-mystery dinner

Tickets are now available for North Brunswick Library's murder-mystery dinner, "Aloha Means Good-bye: Forever" June 23 at 7 p.m.

The audience are extras at the Hawaiian filming of the new TV series "Aloha Blue," a play within a play. An individual dies in the pilot, as well as within the acting company. Attendees will act as detectives and figure out who did it. Tickets are $30 each.

Blood drive at N.B. High School June 15

New Jersey Blood Services will hold a blood drive June 15 from 2-6 p.m. at North Brunswick High School, Raider Road and Route 130. JCP&L inspections slated for area

Jersey Central Power & Light (JCP&L), Morristown, has announced it will perform a second round of spring aerial inspections of its overhead transmission lines in northern and central New Jersey through May 23-25 (weather permitting).

During inspections, customers may notice a black-and-white helicopter hovering in areas near substations and transmission lines. The central New Jersey service area includes all or portions of Monmouth, Middlesex and Ocean counties.

Epilepsy Foundation offering scholarships

The Epilepsy Foundation of New Jersey (EFNJ), Trenton, will offer four $1,000 scholarships to New Jersey high school seniors with epilepsy or seizure disorders. The deadline for applications is June 1.

Considered for the scholarships are academic achievement, participation in activities, and financial need. The extent of the applicant's disability will also be considered; the applicant need not be near the top of his or her class to qualify. For information, call Michelle at (732) 262-8020.

Cleanup at Farrington Lake slated for June 2

SAMHAJ information session slated for June 7

South Asian Mental Health Awareness in Jersey (SAMHAJ) will present the information session, "Mental Health Resources in New Jersey," June 7 from 7-8 p.m. at National Alliance on Mental Illness of New Jersey (NAMI) New Jersey, 1562 Route 130, North Brunswick.

Guest speaker will be Jeanne Schmidt, family specialist, intensive family support services at UMDNJ-UBHC. She will discuss how to navigate the mental health system in the state of New Jersey. Support group meetings will follow.

The event is free of charge.
