Vote for school budget, leaders who support education Just recently on New Jersey Network (NJN 50) the state's Education Commissioner Lucille E. Davy stated, "We will have a new school funding formula in 2008 by the time the new school term starts." I sincerely hope that she has the governor and Legislature on her side. For years the school boards across the state were labeled as the "bad guys" when it comes to property taxes, since approximately 70 percent of each tax dollar goes towards school funding. I say that members of the Legislature need to accept the blame for being poor policy makers in finding a fair and equitable methodology to fund our schools. Furthermore, I want to remind every voter that the whole Legislature - Senate and Assembly - is up for election this year. Support those candidates that put the school funding formula at the very top of their platforms. Let's hold their feet to the fire and placed the full burden on their shoulders. After all, we elected them. Locally, I want every voter to come out and support the South Brunswick school budget April 17. I strongly believe that the budget is fiscally responsible. It has no fat. It puts the needs of our children first. Also, there is a wonderful slate of candidates running for re-election and election to the board. Special consideration should be given to the candidacies of Mahesh "Mac" Shah and Susan Santowasso on their first bid as school board members.
