Board names new assist. principal at high school SOUTH BRUNSWICK - The Board of Education has named Scott Horowitz, the high school's assistant athletic director, as the new ninth grade assistant principal. He will replace Ray Ivey, who will retire at the end of June. Prior to joining the South Brunswick School District, Mr. Horowitz was employed as a high school English teacher in South Plainfield School District between 1998 and 2006, when he took his current position. He was also an English teacher at St. Peter the Apostle School in New Brunswick. Horowitz coached during his tenure in both schools. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree in English from Kean University in 1997, where he also earned his master's in curriculum and instruction, his supervisor's certificate and principal's certificate. According to South Brunswick High School Principal Tim Matheney, Horowitz was selected from among several other candidates by a panel of teachers, staff members and a student representative. The suggestion was then sent to the Board of Education, who approved the appointment on Monday. Matheney said that he has been pleased with Horowitz's performance as Assistant Athletic Director and looks forward to working with him as an assistant principal. "Mr. Horowitz has done an outstanding job as an assistant athletic director. He's been 100 percent reliable and enthusiastic and he works really well with the students. I think he'll do a great job as our ninth grade assistant principal next year," said Matheney.
