Register for Tailgate Trick or Treating by Oct. 20

South Brunswick Department of Parks and Recreation will hold "Tailgate Trick or Treating" Oct. 28 from 12:30-3 p.m., with registration deadline Oct. 20.

The free event will be at a parking lot at Woodlot Park, New Road, Monmouth Junction section of South Brunswick. Tailgaters need to bring enough candy, treats, novelties or giveaways for approximately 250 children. Prizes will be given for the best decorated car in the categories of funniest, scariest, and best Halloween theme. The event is recommended for children in grades preschool through six, and reservations are required. Individuals with disabilities that are not in the age groups are encouraged to register. Halloween program at N.B. Library Oct. 24

North Brunswick Public Library, 880 Hermann Road, will celebrate Halloween with a pumpkin painting craft for children age 7-12 Oct. 24 at 4 p.m. Attendees should bring a pumpkin, and the library will supply paints and decorations. Piccirillo Sciencetelling will present "The Mystery of Locker 200" for children age 5 and older Oct. 28 at 1:30 p.m. The program will combine science and storytelling. The Kids' News Club will hold its monthly meeting at 3 p.m. The club is for children in grades three to five. The book to be discussed will be "Bandit's Moon" by Sid Fleischman. American Mensa testing to begin Oct. 21

The Central New Jersey Chapter of American Mensa, North Brunswick, is taking part in American Mensa's National Testing Day by offering four membership tests on two dates.

A "culture fair exam" will be Oct. 21 at 9 a.m. in Edison, and advance registration is required. To register or for details, call Martha at (732) 494-5826 or visit testing@cnj.us.mensa.org. The second test will be Oct. 21, with registration at 10 a.m. and testing from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Jamesburg Public Library, 229 Gatzmer Ave. The third exam will be Oct. 21 with registration at 12:30 p.m., and testing from 1-3 p.m. The fourth exam will be Oct. 22 with registration at 1 p.m., and testing from 1:30-3:30 p.m. Both will be at Sayreville Public Library, 1050 Washington Road, Parlin.

Individuals unable to attend the exams may take an additional admission test Dec. 21 from 7-9 p.m. at Hillsborough Municipal Building, 379 S. Branch Road. Individuals scoring at or above the 98th percentile on one of the tests qualifies for Mensa membership. Test processing fee is $30.

Festival, dance-a-thon slated at Greenbrook School

Greenbrook Elementary School, 30 Roberts Street, Kendall Park section of South Brunswick, will hold its fall festival Oct. 21 from noon-3 p.m. The event will feature games with prizes, scarecrow making, face painting, tattoos and other activities. Tickets are $9 for children, and free for adults. The school will hold a dance-a-thon Oct. 31 to raise funds for school programs. Lecture, class at senior center during October

South Brunswick Senior Center, Route 522, Monmouth Junction section of South Brunswick, will offer the free lecture "Sharing the Roads with Large Vehicles" Oct. 19 at 12:30 p.m.

The lecture is open to township residents age 55 and older. Assemblywoman Linda Greenstein will give the workshop, featuring a guest speaker from the New Jersey Motor Truck Association, and will discuss safety guidelines on sharing the road safely with large vehicles.

"Preparation for Citizenship" will run for six weeks beginning Oct. 25 at 1:30 p.m. The session will teach the history of the United States, and documents such as the Constitution and Bill of Rights will be covered. Attendees must purchase the book "Citizenship: Passing the Test" by Lynne Weintraub. Classes are offered to township residents age 55 and older, and the only requirements are registration and an intermediate level of proficiency in the English language. Fall beach sweep at Raritan Bay Oct. 21

The Middlesex County Conservation Corps and Clean Ocean Action will hold the 21st annual fall beach sweep Oct. 21 at 9 a.m. at Raritan Bay Waterfront Park.

Volunteers will remove the trash along the shoreline of Raritan Bay. Corps members will serve as beach captains for the effort. Groups and individuals are welcome to participate.

Linwood parent/teacher conferences Oct. 25-27

Linwood Middle School, 25 Linwood Place, North Brunswick, will hold parent/teacher conferences 1:30-3:15 p.m. Oct. 25 and 27, and 7-9 p.m. Oct. 26. The school also invites all former staff members to visit during Pride Week, Oct. 23-27.

N.B. Food Bank seeking holiday food donations

The North Brunswick Food Bank is collecting food for the upcoming holidays with donations accepted at the Department of Parks, Recreation and Community Services, 710 Hermann Road.

Turkeys, mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce, sweet potatoes, gravy, green beans, corn, cranberry bread, pie crusts, pumpkin puree, evaporated milk, coffee, pudding and butter would be appreciated. Gift cards in lieu of items are also accepted.
