Obituaries Peter Matseur Mr. Matseur, 78, of North Brunswick, died Aug. 31 at home. Born in Milltown, he resided in South River, and Highland Park before moving to North Brunswick 53 years ago. He was a millwright at Bristol-Myers Squibb, New Brunswick, for 43 years, retiring in 1988. He served with the U.S. Navy on the USS Keppler from 1945 to 1948. He was a communicant of St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church, New Brunswick. Mr. Matseur was a life member of the American Legion, Joyce Kilmer Post No. 25, Milltown. He was also a member of the Bristol-Myers Squibb Retirees Activities Club, and Quarter Century Club. He was predeceased by his wife, Elizabeth Hettich Matseur, in 1982. He is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Peter T. and Annmarie Matseur of Highland Park, and Christopher and Phyllis Matseur of Brick; three daughters and sons-in-law, Elizabeth Susan and Edward Munoz of Far Hills, Donna and Vincent Minkler of Monroe Township, and Deborah and David Light of Aurora, Ohio; a brother, Harry Matseur of Spotswood; a sister, Amelia Bielski of East Brunswick; his companion, Lucy Taylor of East Brunswick; 10 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at St. John's Church. Interment was at St. Peter's Cemetery, New Brunswick. Arrangements were by Selover Funeral Home, North Brunswick. Memorial donations may be made to Monastery of Our Lady of the Rosary, 543 Springfield Ave., Summit 07901. Ciro F. Sinagra Mr. Sinagra, 58, of Wolfeboro, N.H., formerly of Milltown and North Brunswick, died Sept. 2 in Huggins Hospital, Wolfeboro. A Milltown police officer from 1972 to 1983, he was assistant director of the Middlesex County Police Academy from 1983 to 1987 and an investigator with the Middlesex County Prosecutor's Office from 1987 to 1998. He was a former general manager at a Harley-Davidson dealership in Edison and served as a motorcycle safety instructor. Surviving are his wife, Silke Psula Sinagra; his father and mother, Ciro S. and Rosina Laduca Sinagra of Marryville, Tenn., a daughter, Dawn of New Jersey; a brother, Joe S. Sinagra of Helmetta; two sisters, Mary Fama of Milltown and Julie Beerli of Andrews, N.C.; two grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. A memorial service with military honors was held at Brewster Academy Assembly Hall, Wolfeboro, with the Rev. Bryce Whiting officiating. A second service is planned for 3-6 p.m. Sept. 9 at American Legion Hall, 4 JFK Drive, Milltown. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or to any local police association. Arrangements were by Baker-Gagne Funeral Home, Wolfeboro.
Florence E. Hemmes Young Mrs. Young, 86, of the Dayton section of South Brunswick, died Aug. 30 at Saint Peter's University Hospital, New Brunswick. Born in Staten Island, N.Y., she resided in Plainsboro before moving to Dayton seven years ago. Mrs. Young was a homemaker. She was predeceased by her husband, Norman Young. She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, James and Karen Young of Englishtown; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Barbara Nemeth of Florida, Carol and Samuel Ralston of Jamesburg, and Deborah and Howard Craig of Plainsboro; eight grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren. Visitation will be Sept. 9, 9-10 a.m., at Brunswick Memorial Home, East Brunswick. Interment will follow at Chestnut Hill Cemetery, East Brunswick. Memorial donations may be made to Humane Society, 2100 L St. NW, Washington, D.C. 20037; or North Shore Animal League, 25 Davis Ave., Port Washington, NY 11050.
Helen C. Pikul Walker Mrs. Walker, 83, of East Brunswick, died Sept. 4 in Saint Peter's University Hospital, New Brunswick. A part-time sales associate for many years at Macy's, East Brunswick, she also served as chairperson of the Adult Flower Show at the Middlesex County Fair and as an East Brunswick poll worker and poll judge. Her first husband, Frank Pikul, died in 1985, and her second husband, James Walker, died in 2003. Surviving are two sons, Gregory Pikul of Metuchen and Timothy Pikul of the Kendall Park section of South Brunswick; two daughters, Cynthia Pikul of Suffern, N.Y., and Paula Pikul of New York City; a stepson, James S. Walker of Marlboro; a stepdaughter, Robin S. Taylor of Orlando, Fla.; and five grandchildren. A Mass was offered at St. Bartholomew's Church, East Brunswick. Interment was in Holy Cross Burial Park, South Brunswick. Memorial contributions may be made to the East Brunswick Woman's Club for a garden memorial at the East Brunswick Public Library.
