GOP mayoral candidate Kish drops out of race
According to Kish, his company, a subsidiary of Dow Chemical, has transferred him to a new location, which means he will need to move out of town and cannot continue with the race. "Unfortunately, I can't stick around for the race, but family and career take priority," said Kish. Local taxes had been the primary issue when Kish began the race for mayor in June. The current mayor, Democrat Frank Gambatese, said that he had heard rumors of Kish leaving, but he downplayed them, as people "hear all sorts of rumors" during campaigns. He said that he is going to continue to campaign and said that he understands and supports Kish's decision. "All I know is this: I don't like to see anyone drop out of a race, especially if it's something to do with a career," said Gambatese. "Mr. Kish has to do what he has to do, what is best for his family, and that's understandable. All we can do is to continue to campaign, and whatever happens, happens." Still running, though, is the GOP candidate for council, Lynda Woods Cleary, who is campaigning against Councilman Chris Killmurray. She said she wishes to bring more diversity - political, cultural and gender - to the township government. She said that the local Republican Party will discuss what to do during its next weekly meeting. "We wish Richard and his family well in their new location," said Woods Cleary. "I am still very, very excited about running for office during this campaign year, and the organization is still very excited about having me as candidate."
