Titans jump to 3-0 start in Caruso Tournament

The Dayton Titans began their journey to the North Brunswick Caruso tourney title in impressive fashion, winning their first three games by a combined score of 36-1.

The Titans faced the Hillsboro Heat in the first game, and rode the strong arm of Ethan Collins to victory. Collins held the Heat to only two hits, and struck out eight, in the 15-0, five-inning, mercy-rule victory. Matt Von Roemer came on in the fifth inning to nail the door shut on the team from Hillsboro. Anthony Cima, Kyle Klemas, Jim Matt, and Colby Redfield led the hit parade with three hits each, while Gary Holder, Von Roemer, and Collins each contributed two, and Chucky LaSala added a triple and two RBIs.

The Titans next faced their neighbors to the east - East Brunswick - and came away with an 11-1, four-inning, mercy rule victory. Gary Holder started the game on the hill for the Titans and recorded the W, with Kyle Klemas coming on in relief in the fourth inning to finish the game. The Titans again spread the hits throughout the line-up, with Matt collecting three, Cima and Redfield collecting two hits each, Collins and Von Roemer crushing triples, and Mark Bobko and Alex Matt nailing doubles.

In the final game of the weekend, Dayton faced their northern neighbors - North Brunswick - and claimed a 10-0, four-inning, mercy rule victory. Mark Bobko and Drew Fisher each threw two innings for the Titans, holding North Brunswick to only one hit. Bobko recorded three strikeouts, and Fisher four, in keeping North Brunswick off the scoreboard. Von Roemer's home run led the Titans, and Collins, Klemas and Redfield each added two hits.

The Titans resume play this Saturday against Franklin in the Caruso tournament.
