Nominations now accepted for Chandlee Award

North Brunswick Department of Parks, Recreation and Community Services is accepting nominations for the Ann Marie Chandlee Heritage Day Award given to a resident dedicated to improving the quality of life in the township as a volunteer with a nonprofit or civic organization for an extended period of time. Submissions must be made in writing and include a detailed description of why the nominee is deserving of the honor. Nominations can be submitted to the Heritage Day Committee, 710 Hermann Road, North Brunswick 08902. The award will be presented at the 24th annual Heritage Day Festival Sept. 30.

A basketball camp for children age 7-14 will be held July 31-Aug. 4 from 8:30 a.m. to noon at the high school gym at 30 Raider Road. The camp will feature guest lectures from high school and college coaches, games and contests, hustle awards and T-shirts. Fee is $100 per camper, and registration deadline is July 31. Film festival, baby-sitting class slated at library

North Brunswick Library, 880 Hermann Road, will continue its summer international film festival with "The Chorus" (French) July 13. "3-Iron" (Korean) will be July 27.

Films scheduled for August are "Turtles can fly" (Kurdish) Aug. 3, "Nina's Tragedies" (Hebrew) Aug. 10, and "Brothers" (Danish) Aug. 24. All movies begin at 8 p.m., and are shown in original languages with English subtitles. Registration is required as seating is limited. A three day baby-sitting seminar for youngsters age 11 and older will be July 25, and Aug. 1 and 8 from 10:30 a.m.-12:45 p.m. The free seminar is co-sponsored by the Middlesex County Health Department and the library. Participants will learn about child development, nutrition, fire and emergency safety, first aid, and toy safety. To register, call (732)-246-3545.
