Mapleton buy a crowning achievement of mayor's term I want to urge anyone in South Brunswick who supports open space preservation to vote in the June 6 primary elections for Mayor Frank Gambatese. The mayor's tireless negotiations towards the establishment of Mapleton Preserve assured the preservation of an absolute gem of a property, a 200-acre piece of land that has the potential to become a true "destination" for South Brunswick and the entire region. Much nursery stock was left behind when Princeton Nurseries - one of the oldest and most famous tree nurseries in the nation - moved from Kingston to Allentown. This includes the dogwoods, lilacs, viburnums, weeping cherries, wisteria and magnolias that were blooming for the recent Arbor Day celebration, which more than 400 people attended. At the event, Princeton Nurseries donated trees that will form the backbone of the new Flemer Arboretum, which will, as it grows, highlight their world famous introductions. The Delaware & Raritan (D&R) Canal State Park now has its headquarters here, along with an adjacent building that will be used to provide interpretive programs for the public. The trails in the preserve are extensive and link to both the D&R Canal and other trails in the area, so provide vital open space connections. Usually I forget to vote in the primaries, but not this upcoming one on June 6. I emphatically support the reelection of Mayor Frank Gambatese who has preserved 1,117 acres of open space and farmland - including 90 acres in densely populated Kendall Park) In my opinion, Mapleton Preserve is the crowning glory of his administration.
