Host’s goal is helping others achieve success
Monroe resident celebrates first year of WCTC radio show

MONROE — In his 40 years as a consultant, talk-radio host and sales coach Milton Paris said he has never been unable to help a client succeed.

“I love when businesses give me their goal, and I make that my goal, and we achieve it together,” Paris said. “I guarantee my work.”

Paris, the executive director of Paradigm Associates, moved to Monroe three years ago from Long Island, N.Y., where he was host of “Aim for the Sky,” a radio program designed to help businesses solve problems and promote themselves.

He now hosts “Getting Ahead in Business,” on 1450 WCTC AM, at 9:30 a.m. each Saturday. The program is celebrating its first anniversary.

The show boasts 5,000 listeners weekly and is the fourth-rated talk-radio program in Central New Jersey.

“I have interesting guests, and we give important information for someone who wants to climb the ladder of success,” Paris said. “We give good sales tips, and I use my 40 years of knowledge to help entrepreneurs, sales people, businesses and banks. It’s a good way to reach thousands of people.”

Paris had retired from consulting at the age of 59, but his work was far from over. He continued to receive requests for advice from clients, prompting him to write a manual of sorts for success in business.

The book is called “Two Hundred and Fifty Statements and Thoughts to Live By in Sales.” But, Paris found, his fans wanted more.

Paris then began giving lectures based on his book, and discovered that he, too, wanted more.

He is now a full-time consultant for clients based only in New Jersey.

“I have a knack. I take sales people out knocking on doors, and that’s where I’m successful for the company, and of course for the sales people,” Paris said, noting his preference for making clients comfortable working face to face with their own customers.

“I talk to them in an office, then I say let’s go out, and I go out with each individual, and that’s where they become better sales people,” he said.

Paris said he did not receive such advice when he was starting out, but he learned the most important tools for success — a sunny disposition and unshakable optimism — from his parents. Paris, who said he leads his clients by example, noted that those two traits are as important today as they were 40 years ago.

“You have to have a positive attitude all the time, seven days, 24 hours a day,” Paris said. “And I got that from my folks. They were always positive, and that’s what I do with my clients. Whatever obstacles they’ve got, I eliminate for them.”

Through teamwork, Paris said, he helps his clients develop the skills and knowledge necessary to succeed. If a client already possesses those skills, Paris will teach them how to apply their talents to a given situation.

Paris believes the client must set goals to be met on a daily, weekly and monthly basis, and be aware of any obstacles that must be cleared before the ultimate goal is reached.

“Everybody has to have a goal,” Paris said. “We know there are obstacles along the way, but what I do is, when I sit with them I tell them to put it in pencil. And then when I’m finished with them, the obstacles are eliminated, and we reach the goal together.”

Paris has two goals for his own pursuit as well. Both pertain to career satisfaction — his own, and that of his clients.

He said he would like to help more people achieve their goals and live out their dreams, something he said he is doing.

“My goal is to be happy in what I do, and that, to me, is a success,” Paris said. “You can make a lot of money, but if you’re not happy in what you do, it’s not success.”

Paris said he is always looking for interesting guests, as well as sponsors, for the show.
