School board makes several personnel moves

SOUTH BRUNSWICK — The Board of Education approved several professional appointments at its Monday night meeting.

Mylo Wright, Carol Piza, April Gonzalez and Mark Kmiec were all designated to new positions in the district for the 2005-06 school year.

Wright, a former fourth-grade teacher in Asbury Park, has been named the assistant principal of Brooks Crossing Elementary school. Wright replaces Assistant Principal Scott McCue who resigned in June.

Wright, who holds a master’s degree in education administration from the College of New Jersey and a bachelor’s degree in biology from Rutgers University, will join the district Sept. 1.

Piza will serve as the district’s new coordinator of special education services, a position created in June. Piza has served as teacher of language arts and computer science at Crossroads Middle School. She has also served as the school’s teacher leader and most recently worked as supervisor for special education for preschool through eighth grade.

Piza holds both a master’s degree in education administration from Rider University as well as a master’s degree in special education from the College of New Rochelle. Under this new position, Piza, will coordinate special education supervisors, evaluate staff and assist the Office of Professional Development in the organization and training of the district special education programs and services.

Gonzalez has been named supervisor of the South Brunswick High School English Department. Gonzalez has taught English at the high school since 1990. She has a master’s degree in teaching from Marygrove College and a bachelor’s degree in English and psychology from Montclair State University.

Kmiec will be appointed as assistant principal at Crossroads North Middle School, following his completion of the New Jersey Principal’s Certification program studies. Kmiec, who has been with the district since 1977, has served several roles including physical education teacher and crisis response team leader.

Kmiec has earned a master’s degree in physical education from Montclair State University and a bachelor’s degree in health and physical education from the College of New Jersey. His appointment is expected to take effect Jan. 1.
