Registration for ‘Time for Two’s’ begins June 13

The North Brunswick Public Library, 880 Hermann Road, will hold in-person registration for “Time for Two’s” beginning June 13. The program for children ages 24-36 months with an adult will be Thursdays from 10:30-11 a.m. beginning June 30.

A Father’s Day story and craft program for children ages 5 and older will be June 14 at 4 p.m. The library’s board of trustees will meet June 15 at 7 p.m. at the library’s conference room. The Kids News Club for students in grades three through six will hold its final meeting June 18 at 2 p.m., and discuss “The Bodes in the Besseldorf Hotel” by Phyllis Reynolds Naylor. N. B’wick Youth Sports Festival June 14-19

The North Brunswick Youth Sports Festival will be held June 14-19 on the grounds adjacent to DeVry University, Route 1 north, North Brunswick.

Featured will be rides, various foods, fireworks and a mega 50/50. New this year will be an expanded “Kids Corner” with face painting, tattoos, clowns, magic shows, balloon artists, and other activities. Attendees pay one price for all rides June 15, and June 18 and 19 from 3-6:30 p.m. The musical group The Nerds will perform June 15, The Party Dolls June 17, and Mr. Ray the Great Kids Entertainer June 16 and 17.

Festival hours are Tuesday-Thursday from 6-10 p.m., Friday from 6-11 p.m., Saturday from 3 p.m. to midnight, and Sunday from 3-10 p.m. For more information, call (732) 485-4778.

Walk slated on D&R Canal path June 25

Delaware and Raritan (D&R) Canal State Park will offer a walk from the Kingston Canal House to the Millstone Aqueduct June 25 at 10 a.m.

The 4-mile walk will be along the canal path and led by a D&R Park historian. Walkers should meet at the canal house at Route 27, Kingston section of South Brunswick.

Housing, practice sites sought for competitors

The Jersey Surf Summer Classic will take place Aug. 6 at Memorial Stadium, New Brunswick, as part of the Drum Corps International division II/III tour.

Housing and practice sites are needed for individuals taking part in the competition which features corps from the west coast, midwest and Canada. Sites are needed for groups of up to 10 due to arrive between 3-6 a.m. Aug. 6. Show time is 5 p.m. Preferred locations are high schools with gymnasiums, showers, cafeterias, kitchens, and practice fields; and public recreation centers and centers operated by church groups, the YMCA/YMHA, and other community service organizations. Corps not requiring overnight housing still need athletic fields and parks for rehearsal. Children’s Day at local church June 12

The Reformed Church of North Brunswick, 17 Laurel Place, will hold its annual Children’s Day celebration beginning with worship June 12 at 10 a.m. The event will feature various activities and music.

The Mosaic Bible study group for adult singles will hold its next meeting June 19 at 6 p.m. at the church. Singles age 40 and older are invited to share the fellowship. The group meets the third Sunday of each month from 6-8 p.m.

Pilots to offer free flights for young people

Young people ages 8-17 are invited to take to the skies at the EAA (Experimental Aircraft Association) Chapter No. 315 Young Eagles Flight Rally set to begin at 10 a.m. on June 11 at Old Bridge Airport, 182 Pension Road. Rain date is June 12.

Volunteer pilots will be on hand to explain how airplanes work and how to ensure that safety is the primary consideration before each flight.

Interested young people will be able to take an orientation flight at no charge. Following the free flight, participants will receive a certificate making them official Eagle Flight members. The youngsters’ names will then be entered into the “World’s Largest Logbook,” which is on permanent display at the EAA Air Adventure Museum, Oshkosh, Wis.

Registration will begin at 10 a.m. and close at 1 p.m. Flights will begin soon after registration opens. Hot dogs and soft drinks will be available at a nominal fee to cover costs, but all flights are free of charge and voluntary on the part of the pilots involved.

A registration form signed by a parent or guardian is required. In the event that a parent or guardian cannot be present at the event, forms will be available in advance.

Only individuals ages 8-17 may participate in the program. Parents and other visitors may be accommodated with a flight if time and available pilots permit.

The rally is part of the EAA Aviation Education Foundation’s Young Eagles program designed to inform youth about general aviation and recreational flying. The original goal was to provide 1 million young people with an airplane ride by the end of 2003, the 100th anniversary of powered flight and the 50th anniversary of the EAA. The goal was achieved, and the program was so successful that it is being continued.

Volunteer EAA members also conduct Young Eagles flights individually. Interested young people who are unable to attend the June 11 rally may log on to www.eaa.org or call Bob Hartmaier for more information.

S. Brunswick Library to close for summer June 13

The South Brunswick Public Library, 110 Kingston Lane, Monmouth Junction section of South Brunswick, will close for the summer beginning June 13 for completion of the library’s expansion and renovation. A temporary library will open later in June at the South Brunswick Municipal Complex, Route 522. It will contain best sellers, children’s books, teenager’s books, assigned summer reading materials, popular movies and recorded books. Chabad of North, South B’wick shavuot June 13

Chabad of North and South Brunswick will be celebrating “Shavuot” June 13 at 9:30 a.m. at the grand ballroom at Buckingham Place, 155 Raymond Road, South Brunswick.

The event marks the completion of the seven weeks between Passover and shavuot during which Jewish individuals prepared for the giving of the torah. An ice cream party for young children will follow the services.

Seminar on teachings of shavuot set for June 12

Chabad Jewish Center, 1 Riva Ave., North Brunswick, will offer a Torah discovery seminar on the teachings of shavuot June 12 at 11 p.m.

Study sessions will be conducted throughout the night by Rabbi Levi Azimov, and shavuot begins June 13. A children’s shavuot ice cream party will held June 13 at 5:30 p.m.

Fifth annual senior prom slated for June 10

North Brunswick Township will sponsor the fifth annual senior prom hosted by the North Brunswick Senior Center June 10 from 6-9 p.m.

John Adams Elementary School will honor retiring teacher Mary Lou Shulas, and is seeking testimonials from former students. Upcoming information about free lacrosse clinics will be available beginning June 20. “Battle of the Bands” will be July 22 from 6-11 p.m. at Linwood Middle School, Linwood Place (no X-rated music allowed). Admission is $5 and the winner will play at Heritage Day in September. North Brunswick Arts and Humanities Committee is seeking vendors for its farmer’s market July 23 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Babbage Park (rain date is July 24). Spaces are $20 each, and the event is free.

The Department of Parks, Recreation & Community Services is still holding registration for several summer programs.
