Chabad’s ‘Purim in Peking’ March 24
Chabad Jewish Center of South Brunswick will present its annual “Purim Celebration” March 24 at 6:30 p.m. at Pierre’s Ballroom, 582 Georges Road, Monmouth Junction section of South Brunswick. The event’s theme will be “Purim in Peking,” and will feature a megillah reading and simultaneous slide show, a kung-fu performance, Oriental masquerade contest, live music, Chinese auction, and “all you can eat” buffet dinner. Price is $10, and $8 for children, which includes two tickets for the auction. Chabad will also take part in a “virtual purim” March 24 as individuals worldwide compete online at www.chabadsouthbrunswick.com/costumecontest. The contest is expected to draw more than 2,000 contestants competing for prizes in a purim costume contest. Voting is worldwide, and site visitors rate favorite costumes, with highest-rated contestants winning an array of prizes posted on the site. For purim reservations or more information, call Rabbi Levi Azimov at (732) 398-9492 or e-mail rabbi@chabadsouthbrunswick.com.
Updated information sought from seniors
The township of South Brunswick Office on Aging is updating information for the South Brunswick Senior Center. The Office is asking all seniors to fill out its new application, with all information to remain confidential. Information such as age, veterans information, race and financial data will help the office staff match seniors with programs and services available based on income and other data. Additionally, the information is required for funding and grants since all are based on the seniors the township serves. Seniors may complete the new forms over the phone or request more information by calling (732) 329-4000, ext. 7670 Monday-Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
‘Good-Earth Gardening Program’ under way
Rutgers Cooperative Research and Extension of Middlesex County is seeking individuals to take part in its “Good-Earth Gardening Program” at county locations at the Buccleuch Park site, New Brunswick, and Livingston campus site, Piscataway. There are open plots for use at both sites, and the Extension office has a limited supply of free seeds to offer to new gardeners. The community garden program was begun in 1984, and gardeners may fill plots with vegetables, ornamental annuals, perennials, herbs and other plants. For more information on “Good-Earth,” call the Extension’s agriculture department at (732) 745-4594.
