Edward David Herbert Mr. Herbert, 44, of Montgomery Township, formerly of East Brunswick, died March 11 in Old Bridge. He was predeceased by his parents, Eloise Rajek Herbert and Daniel H. Herbert. He was president of Pinnacle Materials Inc., East Brunswick, a company originally known as Herbert Sand Co. Inc., which was cofounded by his late father in 1948. Along with his sister, Christine Herbert Yackman, he was an officer in several family-owned affiliate companies. He was a former member of the East Brunswick Chamber of Commerce and a lifelong member of Trinity Presbyterian Church, East Brunswick. Surviving are his wife, Ava Kojko Herbert; a sister and brother-in-law, Christine Herbert Yackman and Paul Yackman; a brother, Daniel H. Herbert Jr.; a brother-in-law, Robert Kojko; his mother-in-law, Leondina Kojko; a nephew and a niece; and several aunts, uncles and cousins. A service was held at Trinity Presbyterian Church. Interment was in Old Tennent Cemetery, Tennent section of Manalapan. Memorial contributions may be made to the Trinity Presbyterian Church Memorial Fund.Ann F. Davey Kozlowski Mrs. Kozlowski, 80, of the Morgan section of Sayreville, formerly of South Amboy, died March 6 at home. Surviving are her husband, Edward "Hank" Kozlowski; a daughter, Judy Wallace of Bradley Beach; a son, Edward Kozlowski of New York City; a brother, Arthur Davey of Holmdel; a sister, Margaret Lazar of Boca Raton, Fla.; and four grandchildren. A Mass was offered at St. Mary’s Church, South Amboy. Interment was in Christ Church Cemetery, South Amboy. Dr. Kovacs, 78, of South River died March 3 in St. Peter’s University Hospital, New Brunswick. Prior to his retirement in 1995, he practiced general and pediatric dentistry in Old Bridge for 37 years. Surviving are his wife, Marion Schaffer Kovacs; two daughters, Sister Theresa Maria Kovacs, a member of the religious community of the Sisters Minor of Mary Immaculate, and Katherine Mary Minnefor of Milltown; a son, Michael A. Kovacs III of Old Bridge; and two brothers, Edward Kovacs of Clifton and Albert Kovacs of Lunenberg, Vt. A Mass was offered at St. Mary of Ostrabrama Church, South River. Tomasulo Mr. Tomasulo, 61, of Brick died Feb. 23 at Rock Shore Gardens, Brick. Surviving are a son, Robert C. Tomasulo of Monroe; a daughter, Gina Daddio of Old Bridge; a brother, Patrick Tomasulo of Toms River; and three grandchildren. Funeral services were held at the Michael Hegarty Funeral Home, Old Bridge, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Thomas the Apostle Roman Catholic Church, Old Bridge. Interment took place at Silverton Cemetery, Silverton.Edith Altobelli Mrs. Altobelli, 95, of Old Bridge died March 1 in Long Island, N.Y. She was predeceased by her husband, Frank Altobelli. Surviving are three sons, Leo Altobelli of the Toms River section of Dover, Frank Altobelli of Linden and John Altobelli of Millstone; a sister, Margaret Ricciardi of Edison; nine grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. A Mass was offered at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, Old Bridge. Interment was in St. Gertrude’s Cemetery, Colonia section of Woodbridge. Mary Sambora Szykowski Mrs. Szykowski, 85, of the Parlin section of Sayreville died March 8 in Raritan Bay Medical Center, Old Bridge division. Her husband, Henry, died in 2000; a son, William, died in 2003; and another son, Stephen, died in 1977. Surviving are four sisters, Loretta Vaiano of Staten Island, N.Y., Helen Passarello of Middletown, Sophie Nanco of Parlin and Stella Wadulack of Florida; and two brothers, Adam of Point Pleasant and Edward of Passaic. Services were held at Carmen F. Spezzi Funeral Home, Parlin. Interment was in St. Gertrude’s Cemetery, Colonia section of Woodbridge.Joseph T. Vanni Mr. Vanni, 84, of South Amboy died March 1 in Raritan Bay Medical Center, Perth Amboy division. Prior to his retirement in 1979, he was employed for 33 years as supervisor and inventory management specialist at Fort Monmouth. Surviving are his wife, Marie Penta Vanni; a son, Thomas Vanni of South Amboy; a daughter, Lorraine Easton of Bridgewater; a brother, Francis Vanni, and two sisters, Mary Vanni and Anna Vanni, all of South Amboy; a granddaughter; two step-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. A Mass was offered at St. Mary’s Church, South Amboy. Entombment was in the church cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary’s Church.Adolph A. Biagi Mr. Biagi, 84, of East Brunswick died March 10 at home. His wife, Josephine Borek Biagi, died in 2003. Surviving are three daughters, Virginia Pleva and Julia Pearce, both of East Brunswick, and Lorraine Mahoney of the Neshanic Station section of Branchburg; a sister, Eda Matri of Callicoon Center, N.Y.; and two grandchildren. Services were held at Brunswick Memorial Home, East Brunswick. Entombment was in Holy Cross Burial Park, South Brunswick.Jean Marie Shannon McCann Mrs. McCann, 42, of East Brunswick died March 14 in St. Peter’s University Hospital, New Brunswick. Surviving are her husband, Kevin McCann; two sons, Ryan and Conor, both at home; her parents, Patrick and Margaret Mullen Shannon of Yonkers, N.Y.; a brother, Charles Shannon of the Bronx, N.Y.; a sister, Patricia Shannon of New York City; and several nieces and nephews. A Mass is planned for 10 a.m. on March 19 at St. Bartholomew’s Church, East Brunswick. Interment will follow in Holy Cross Burial Park, South Brunswick. Helen C. Rusin Toth Mrs. Toth, 98, of South River died March 13 at home. Prior to her retirement 33 years ago, she was a seamstress for many years with Brodsky and Sons Inc., South River. She was predeceased by her husband, Joseph Toth. Surviving are a daughter, Helen Wanson of South River; a sister, Julia Bosko of South River; two grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. A Mass was offered at St. Mary of Ostrabrama Church, South River. Interment was in St. Mary’s Cemetery, East Brunswick. Julius Paul Katko Sr. Mr. Katko, 81, of Old Bridge died March 9 at home. Surviving are his wife, Dorothy Jolly Katko; two sons, Julius Paul Katko Jr. of Old Bridge and Kenneth Katko of South Amboy; a daughter, Debra Unglert of Old Bridge; a brother, Theodore of North Brunswick; two sisters, Ida Nagy of the Morgan section of Sayreville and Rose Laslow of New Mexico; nine grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter. A service was held at First Presbyterian Church, Dayton section of South Brunswick. Interment was in Franklin Memorial Park, North Brunswick. |
