Crash claims Lebanon man
BY JENNIFER KOHLHEPP
Staff Writer

NORTH BRUNSWICK — A 56-year-old man died Monday night after apparently suffering a coronary while driving on Route 1, according to police.

The Lebanon resident crashed head-on into a guide rail on Route 1 southbound near the Route 130 overpass at 9:13 p.m. after he apparently suffered the heart attack and veered off the road, North Brunswick Patrolman David Krause, the lead investigator of the accident, said.

Krause said the accident did not cause the driver’s death.

"He was pronounced deceased at 10:07 p.m. at the hospital, and his wife was notified," Krause said.

Krause and Patrolman James Benanti responded to the scene of the accident after another driver alerted police to the crash.

"There was extensive damage to the front of the car," Krause said. "It had to be towed."

The North Brunswick First Aid Squad responded to the scene to treat the victim and Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital paramedics transported him to the New Brunswick hospital.
