NORTH BRUNSWICK — Additional state aid will reduce property taxes 1 point next year, Board Of Education officials said.

The board voted unanimously Tuesday night to accept additional, extraordinary aid from the state in the amount of $226,329.

The board designated the funds for the use of property tax relief in the 2004-2005 school year.

"The money will be used to offset taxes about 1 tax point," board member and finance committee chairwoman Gail DiPane said.

DiPane said the state allotted the district more money for special education this year.

"We asked for $40,000, not including transportation for the students," DiPane said. "They gave us $91,000, and at the end of July they extended the aid and gave us $226,329."

Business Administrator Marshall Sigall said the additional funding came too late to offset taxes for this current year.
