Prosecutor unveils
fugitive reward program

Middlesex County Prosecutor Bruce J. Kaplan recently unveiled a county-wide initiative to apprehend fugitives from justice.

The Fugitive Locator Apprehension Program (FLAP) will offer cash rewards for information leading to the arrest of any Middlesex County fugitive.

Kaplan said all information on informants will remain confidential, and reminded residents not to attempt to apprehend any fugitives, but rather call the prosecutor’s office’s Fugitive Unit.

The office currently maintains 838 outstanding criminal fugitive warrants, and the prosecutor believes — through the use of a cash reward system — local residents will be more inclined to provide law enforcement with information concerning outstanding criminal fugitives.

The prosecutor’s office will pay informants on a sliding scale, up to $500 for the successful apprehension of a Middlesex County criminal fugitive. The seriousness and degree of the crime will be factors in determining the amount of the reward. Funding will be financed through the Prosecutor’s Office forfeited fund account.

For information, visit the Web site at www.co.middlesex.nj.us/prosecutor/index.asp. Individuals with information on a fugitive may call the Fugitive Unit at (732) 745-3362, Monday-Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. or (732) 816-3766, 24 hours a day.
