Fake cop steals $1,200 NORTH BRUNSWICK — A man posing as a police officer reportedly robbed a Jersey Avenue resident of $1,200 in cash Friday, according to police. A Hispanic man, who identified himself as a police officer, reportedly stole the wallet of Barry Heizer, 27, in the driveway of a Livingston Avenue residence at 6:02 p.m., according to police reports. Police said Heizer had just cashed his paycheck at a check cashing establishment on French Street. He said he was stopped in traffic at the intersection of Livingston Avenue and How Lane when a 5-foot-6-inch-tall male, weighing between 250 and 275 pounds, approached his car, according to police. Police said the thief who drove a red Neon with a white stripe on the side, approached Heizer’s vehicle with a badge and handcuffs. The thief directed the victim to pull into the nearest driveway and asked him for identification and his car keys. Police said the thief grabbed the victim’s wallet and said he had to go back to his car to check the victim’s license. The thief then fled the scene of the crime, driving south down Livingston Avenue, according to police reports. No arrests have been made. Police are still investigating. |
