Assemblywoman’s absence at state budget meetings irks constituent I suspect the terms of my employment are quite similar to most other people’s. Typically, rule No. 1 relates to attendance. For all of us, failing to attend important meetings is something our bosses view negatively. For our Assembly representatives, the most important meetings they have are budget committee hearings. The decisions made there affect each and every one of us. Last Thursday, our district’s representative on the budget committee, Assemblywoman Linda Greenstein (D-14th District), decided not to attend. Assemblywoman Greenstein is up for re-election this year. As a member of the budget committee, she has tough decisions to make in this year’s budget, so it isn’t too hard to figure out that she was more worried about her re-election campaign than she was about fighting for us. Because Greenstein wasn’t there for us last Thursday, we didn’t have anyone working to restore the cuts in our property tax rebate checks, and our kids at South Brunswick High School will again be forced to learn in overcrowded, under funded conditions — all because Greenstein chose to take the day off. When South Brunswick needed her most, Assemblywoman Linda Greenstein didn’t show up for work. If you or I acted as irresponsibly, we’d be fired. Maybe it’s time the same rule applied to Greenstein as well. Audrey Sudran Kendall Park |
