Recreation dept. holds registration for kids

The South Brunswick Department of Recreation and Community Affairs will hold fall registration for its programs for preschool age children Sept. 12 from 7-8 p.m. at the community center at Woodlot Park, New Road, Kendall Park section of South Brunswick. The doors to the community center open at 6 p.m.

The Creative Learning programs are "Yippie, I’m 3," "Stepping Stones" and "Fundays." The Bright Starts program is for parents, toddlers, and preschoolers. Registration is open to all South Brunswick residents.

Registration is on a first-come, first-served basis. Applicants must appear at the center in-person and may register only one family. One class must be chosen, with a second choice if first is full. Attendees must have the registration form. A copy of the child’s birth certificate must be on file or a copy must accompany the registration form. Creative Learning registrants must have updated medical and data forms. The child must meet age requirements before Oct. 11.

Tribute to area artist

The South Brunswick Senior Center, 540 Ridge Road, Monmouth Junction section of South Brunswick, will hold a tribute to artist Elizabeth Endres Sept. 17-Jan. 3. Exhibit hours are Monday-Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and two Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. (call for dates).

Endres was a 25-year resident of the Kendall Park section of South Brunswick, and passed away this year at age 96. She was a dedicated artist who worked in a variety of media such as watercolor, oils and woodcarving.

Her extensive travel, as well as nature, were inspirations for her pieces. Her works have been exhibited in New York City and New Jersey. The tribute is made possible by her daughter.

The center will also honor Endres at its "Senior Center Art Show" Sept. 26 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Artists must register for the show by Sept. 13.

Auditions set for ‘Oz’

New Jersey Repertory Theatre, 1795 Oak Road, North Brunswick, will hold auditions for The Wizard of Oz Sept. 13 from 7-8 p.m., and Sept. 14 from 10-11:30 a.m. Auditions are open to individuals age 5-17 and will be at North Brunswick High School, Raider Road.

Individuals should be prepared to sing a portion of a Broadway show tune or Disney song. Rehearsals will be Friday evenings and Saturday afternoons beginning Sept. 21, and performances will be the weekend of Oct. 26.
