Locals compete in park
system’s ‘Run-Bike-Run’

The Monmouth County Park System has announced the results of its "Run-Bike-Run Race" held at Seven Presidents Oceanfront Park, Long Branch. The men’s overall division consisted of 201 athletes, while 59 competed in the women’s overall division. The race consisted of a three-mile run, 16-mile bicycle ride to Sandy Hook and back, and another three-mile run.

Local finishers in the men’s division were Tony Veloso, 44, North Brunswick, 49th place with a time of 1:30:24.8, and Kevin Milton, 33, North Brunswick, 82nd place, 1:35:00.3.

‘Odyssey Yard Sale’ slated for May 18

The South Brunswick "Odyssey of the Mind" world finalist teams will sponsor a "South Brunswick Odyssey Yard Sale" May 18 from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. (rain or shine). The event will be at South Brunswick High School, 750 Ridge Road, Monmouth Junction section of South Brunswick.

Vendor tables are still available. Proceeds from the fund-raiser will benefit the team’s May 22 trip to Colorado to compete in the Odyssey world finals.

Fifth annual ‘Kids Day America’ slated May 18

The fifth annual "Kids Day America/International" will be held May 18 from noon to 3 p.m. at Crossroads Middle School, Major Road, South Brunswick.

The event will feature a moon walk, "slime booth," giveaways and drawings, face painting, and other activities.

The Middlesex County Sheriff’s Department will provide free fingerprinting to all children, and information on crime prevention, child safety and environmental awareness will also be available. Special appearances will be made by both "McGruff the Crime Dog" and "Elmo."

Donations sought for senior rummage sale

The Charleston Place senior citizens will hold a rummage sale on May 17-18 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Charleston Place Senior Citizen Housing is at 3424 Route 27, Kendall Park section of South Brunswick.

Donations of clothing and household items are welcome, with proceeds benefiting existing senior programs.

Fire company to hold ‘Oldies Night’ May 18

North Brunswick Volunteer Fire Company No. 3 will hold a fund-raiser, "Oldies Night," May 18 at 6 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. at North Brunswick Township High School, 100 Raider Road.

Tickets are $30 and $20. The event will feature performances by The Tokens, Earl Lewis and The Channels, and Streetheart.
